SINUS PRECAUTIONS
For patients who have undergone an indirect or direct sinus lift or for patients advised of a sinus opening/communication.
*It is important that you follow these instructions for 2 weeks (or until you are scheduled back to see your surgeon for follow-up evaluation)
Sinus Precautions & Pressure Protection
To protect your surgical site and promote proper healing, it is crucial to avoid any activities that create pressure in your sinuses. Please do not blow your nose under any circumstances. If you feel a sneeze coming on, do not attempt to hold it back or sneeze through your nose; instead, keep your mouth open when you sneeze to safely release the pressure. Additionally, do not participate in any activities that require a sucking or blowing motion, which includes smoking, using drinking straws, or blowing up balloons.
Do not use any type of nasal spray.
Sleeping and Medication Care
When you are resting, please keep your head elevated by using two to three pillows, as this will significantly help manage swelling and pressure. It is also important to stay on track with your recovery by continuing to take all of your prescribed and/or recommended medications exactly as directed.
Managing Minor Bleeding
It is completely normal to expect slight nosebleeds during your initial recovery. However, if you experience heavy bleeding from your nose that you are unable to control with gentle pressure, please call our office immediately so we can assist you.
